The Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC) is a trade association of the U.S. Glass Industry that includes among its members, representatives of all four sectors: Flat, Container, Fiber and Specialty. GMIC, incorporated in September of 1998, is moving forward on a broad front to promote the interests and growth of the U.S. glass industry as a whole. Its formation represents a milestone development for the glass industry. Other industries (steel, aluminum, forest and paper products, etc.) have had organizations that have operated on behalf of the entire industry and have been very effective in consolidating benefits for the industry as a whole. Until the formation of the GMIC, the U.S. glass industry has had no "umbrella" body to represent its interests.
